Going on holiday with your inflatable SUP? Here's what you need to check
An inflatable SUP is the ideal companion for your adventure and relaxation holidays on the water. But before you set off, it is essential to prepare properly so that you can enjoy this experience to the full.
Here are our practical tips on inflatable SUPs for those going on holiday: a complete checklist so you don't forget anything, safety tips, how to choose the right board and how to maintain it.
Check: what to check before setting off with your inflatable SUP
Before closing your suitcase and setting off, make sure your inflatable SUP is ready for adventure. Here's what you can't do without.
Condition of the SUP
First of all, make sure that the board is in perfect condition. Inflate it slightly and check that there are no air leaks. You can run a sponge dampened with soapy water over the joints: the presence of bubbles will indicate a leak. Also check that the valve is clean and closes tightly.
Inflation pump
Check that the inflation pump is working properly and that the built-in pressure gauge is showing the correct pressure. An accurate pressure gauge is essential for achieving the pressure recommended by the manufacturer and ensuring optimal SUP performance.
If you are travelling by car, consider bringing a 12V electric pump to connect to the cigarette lighter, such as this electric pump with built-in battery, which is compact, powerful and perfect for use on the beach thanks to its rechargeable battery (up to 3-4 boards on a full charge) and dual power supply (220V and 12V car socket).
Essential accessories
Prepare everything you need: leash, adjustable paddle, waterproof backpack, repair kit. Add a waterproof bag for your mobile phone, ideal for emergencies or navigation with weather apps. In our shop, you will find all accessories for inflatable SUPs that will guarantee your safety and autonomy during use.
Repair kit
A small repair kit can save your holiday in the event of punctures or minor damage. If you don't have one, you can buy adhesive patches, PVC glue and a valve wrench.
Transport methods
Transporting an inflatable SUP is easy: it folds into a backpack, but avoid folding it in the same places every time.
SUP spots and regulations
Check that your chosen spot is authorised. Consult local ordinances, Coast Guard regulations or coastal municipalities. In some areas (e.g. lakes or protected areas), use may be restricted.
How to use an inflatable SUP safely: rules and tips
SUP is an accessible sport, but it requires caution, especially on holiday when exploring new spots:
- Life jacket: Always wear a life jacket, especially if you are a beginner or sailing in deep water.
- Leash: The leash is your lifeline. Make sure you always wear it, attaching it to your ankle or knee. If you fall, it will prevent you from losing your SUP.
- Wind and current: pay attention to the wind and current. Even a light breeze can quickly carry you away from the shore. If you are a beginner, avoid paddling in strong winds or against the current.
- Distance from the shore: do not stray too far from the shore, especially if you are a beginner. Always keep a visual reference point and try to stay in areas where the water is shallow and safe.
- Never alone on the open sea: avoid sailing alone on the open sea. It is always advisable to go out with other enthusiasts or inform someone of your destination and expected return time. Consider taking your cell phone with you, perhaps in a waterproof bag.
- Check the weather: always check the weather and wind forecasts before setting out. You can use specific apps, such as Windy or WindFinder. Avoid sailing in stormy weather, strong winds, or rough seas.
- Find the right spot: comply with local Coast Guard regulations and bathing areas. Find out where sailing is permitted and keep a safe distance from swimmers and other boats.

How to properly maintain and store your SUP
To best preserve your SUP and make it last as long as possible, it is important to take care of it, and the first step is to clean it thoroughly.
Both the board and accessories, such as the paddle or leash, should be rinsed with fresh water after each use to remove dirt, sand, and salt. Once rinsed, everything must be dried thoroughly to prevent mold, discoloration, and unpleasant odors.
Cleaning is also an excellent opportunity to check for damage, such as dents, delamination, or worse, leaks. If you find any problems, use the repair kit. For more serious damage, you can contact a professional repair center.
Finally, when not in use, it is best to store your SUP in a dry place without large temperature fluctuations, away from sunlight and heat sources. Avoid folding it in the same place every time to prevent stress on the material. If possible, store it slightly deflated to avoid excessive tension on the joints.
How to choose the inflatable SUP that's right for you
Choosing the perfect inflatable SUP depends on several factors: your level of experience, the type of activity you want to do (excursions, yoga, competitions, or simply relaxing outings), and, of course, your personal preferences in terms of stability, maneuverability, and transport.
If you are considering purchasing a solid SUP, no problem: we can also guide you in that choice, helping you find the board that best suits your needs.
Inflatable SUPs for beginners
If you are a beginner, opt for an all-round inflatable SUP, such as the JP AllroundAir LE 10'6". These stand up paddleboards are wider and more stable, making them easier to control and maneuver. The increased width will give you better balance, allowing you to focus on learning paddling techniques.
Touring SUPs for those looking for speed
If you are looking for speed and performance, choose a touring model. These inflatable SUPs are longer and narrower, making them faster and more efficient in the water. They are ideal for long excursions and for those looking for a more athletic experience. We recommend the STX Tourer 11'6", an extremely light and rigid board that is excellent for sporty tours and explorations.
SUP for family use or with children or pets
If you plan to use the SUP with your family, children, or pets, it is important to choose a model with a high maximum load. These boards are larger and more robust, designed to offer greater stability and safety even with more people on board.
An ideal solution is the complete Jobe Aero Jobe Aero Loa 11'6“ kit, perfect for family use and including: 1 board measuring 11'6” x 34“ x 6” with paddle, fin, leash, pump, and a carry bag, so you're ready to go right away.
SUPs for use in the open sea or on lakes
Keep in mind that a SUP designed for the open sea will need to have greater stability and resistance to waves than a SUP for lakes.
Sea SUPs are often longer and equipped with larger directional fins for better tracking. You can also consider a convertible package such as the Jobe Mohaka 10'2" + 3.5m sail, a SUP equipped with a windsurfing insert that makes it perfect for those who want to combine paddling with windsurfing.
For lakes, you can opt for ultra-lightweight, durable, and maneuverable models. We recommend the Fanatic Ray Air SLT 11'6", a lightweight iSUP with the most compact packaging dimensions available.
