DRK

Introducing the winning design of Stab In The Dark X starring Kelly Slater, the DRK in I-Bolic 2. Based on the original shape Dan crafted for Kelly when first asked to make the 11x World Champion some boards, the DRK is a refined version of the FRK designed for high-performance surfing in good waves. Built with I-Bolic 2.0 Core with Fiberglass Lamination.

Wave Type

The DRK was designed for good waves and high-performance surfing. The best conditions for the shape are punchy waves in the head-high to little bit overhead range, in nuggety waves - the more round the wave the more the DRK seems to light up in transition and through turns. That said as you'll see in the Stab In The Dark X series, it's surprisingly versatile in less-than-ideal conditions.

Board Features

The shape is similar to the FRK - a very similar outline, but with a slightly changed rail and foil to be more balanced under his chest than the FRK. The bottom contours, rocker, and fin cluster are all very similar to the FRK, a deliberate choice by Dan to not change the features that make the FRK such a good board. The second refinement Dan and Kelly made from the FRK was to push the wide point forward to allow for the tail to be pulled in slightly, adding increased sensitivity and responsiveness.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size should I choose?

Use the size chart above as your guide — volume (litres) is the most reliable indicator for fit. Beginners and heavier surfers generally benefit from more volume, while experienced surfers can ride lower volumes for greater performance. When in doubt, go slightly larger for everyday waves.

What fins work best with this board?

The bottom contours, rocker, and fin cluster are all very similar to the FRK, a deliberate choice by Dan to not change the features that make the FRK such a good board.

What technology is this board built with?

This board is built with I-Bolic 2.0 Core with Fiberglass Lamination.

How do I repair a ding?

For small surface dings, use a solar-cure ding repair kit, available at most surf shops. Sand smooth once cured. For larger or deeper damage, consult a professional shaper or board repair specialist. Always repair dings as soon as possible to prevent water from entering the foam core.

Care & Maintenance

Rinse your board with fresh water after each session. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight when not in use, as UV and heat can damage the foam and resin. Store your board in a padded bag away from heat sources. Repair any dings or cracks promptly with a solar-cure repair kit to prevent water ingress into the core.
