The O'Neill Heat Ninja 3mm Split-Toe Boot is part of O'Neill's premium surf boot lineup, developed by the R&D team at Area 52 to perform in cold-water conditions. The 3mm thickness provides solid thermal insulation while the split-toe design preserves board feel and grip — a critical balance for performance surfing in cold water. The minimal aesthetic is paired with proven construction techniques for season-long durability.
A 3mm boot is suited for water temperatures between approximately 10°C and 16°C, providing adequate insulation for cold-water surfing without the bulk of thicker options. For very cold conditions (below 10°C), a 5mm or thicker boot is generally recommended.
A split-toe boot has a separated big toe, similar to a glove design, which allows greater sensitivity and natural toe grip on the board. A round-toe boot encloses all toes together for slightly more warmth. Most performance surfers prefer the split-toe for better board feel.
Surf boot sizes are typically based on EU shoe size. A snug fit is normal — the boot should feel tight out of the water and comfortable when wet. If in doubt between two sizes, sizing down is generally recommended as neoprene stretches slightly with use.
Rinse inside and out with fresh water after every cold-water session. Turn inside out and hang to dry in the shade. Do not place near direct heat sources, tumble dry or use chemical cleaners. Inspect seams and the shin strap regularly for signs of wear. Store in a cool, dry place away from UV exposure.
